General

The League was started in 1953 by five clubs which were part of industrial organisations. It was originally known as the Federation of Industrial Clubs (Lawn Tennis Section). By 1964 membership had increased to eleven clubs. In 1968 it was decided to wind up the original Federation and six clubs established the City Tennis League.

The League has steadily grown since then and, today, there are six Mens Divisions with forty-one teams and four Ladies Divisions with twenty-four teams from as far afield as Cromer, Fakenham, North Walsham, North Elmham and Acle. Details of the individual Clubs can be found on the Club Information page.

In the season, from May until August, every team plays the other teams in their Division both home and away (on their own courts). The teams consist of two pairs, each pair playing sixteen games against both of their opponent's pairs. The full current set of Rules can be seen on the Rules page
