AGM 2008 - Draft Minutes
DRAFT
Minutes of City Tennis League AGM held on 10 March 2008
1. Apologies for absence Mike Smith (Carrow Exiles),
Michael Wild (Cringleford), Mark Taylor (Pinebanks), Liz Waller
(Blofield), Liz Lake (Acle A). Judy Richardson (Lakenham), Sonia
Miller (Pinebanks) and Steve Nichol (Jarrolds)
2. Minutes of the last meeting - Already circulated - approved
by the meeting
3. Matters arising from the minutes The Chairman to write
to Norwich City Council concerning their lack of flexibility in
allowing cancellation of court bookings (not very hopeful of a
successful outcome).
4. Mens' Divisions Secretary's Report - Circulated separately
Winter League (with only six teams) progressing slowly, including
some concessions
In Division One Bracondale gained the title again, top by
five points - their only defeat was by Bostons, who will be relegated.
Acle B gain promotion from Division Two narrowly over Stanmore
A (who beat Acle B twice)! Unfortunately both Pinebanks teams
will be relegated.
Brooke B and Cromer B will be promoted from Division 3, Carrow
Exiles A just missing out.
There was a tight finish at both the top and bottom of Division
4, Earlham and Cringleford just holding off a challenge from Marsh
A, despite excellent performances by Ian Jamieson and Simon Willington.
Only two points separated the bottom four teams.
In Division Five, Dereham continue their upward progress with
Heigham - each of these two lost to the other!
In Division Six there were excellent performances by the new club
Fakenham (who virtually used only five players) and the relatively-new
Pinebanks C.
Thanks to all Captains and players for completing the programme
so well, with only four concessions, none of which really affected
promotion/relegation issues!
5. Ladies' Divisions Secretary's Report -Circulated separately
The impending closure of Pinebanks, used for so many activities,
is another major blow to sport in Norwich.
In spite of the rather curtailed program of matches and, therefore,
limited promotion possibilities, especially in Divisions Three
and Four, competition throughout was very exciting, producing
a number of last-gasp finishes.
In Division One Cromer A, who fielded the same line-up in every
match, just eased out the usual strong Acle A squad by winning
the final match against Wymondham.
In Division Two a swift return of Acle B to the top Division saw
their perfect record spoilt by a last-game defeat at Pinebanks.
The very last match in Division Three decided the title and relegation,
with Acle C defeating Cromer C, thus sending their opponents down.
Brooke had their first-ever trophy success and were unbeaten in
Division Four.
Finally a thanks to all team secs and to John Edwards for
all his help as usual in setting up my computer programs. As I
have said before when he goes I go!
6. Chairman's Report
Thanks again to John Edwards and Bob King for their usual
efficient handling of the Mens' and Ladies' Divisions
7. Presentation of Trophies
Mens' Divisions Ladies Divisions
One Bracondale One Cromer A
Two Acle B Two Acle B
Three Brooke B Three Acle C
Four Earlham Four Brooke
Five Dereham
Six Fakenham
All cups present and presented apart from Brooke (no representative

8. Accounts : -

Internet - maintenance of Website quite expensive (hosting
fee - £6 pm and half Broadband cost - £6 pm) -the
Meeting seemed to consider it worthwhile!
New cups for Ladies Div. 4 and Winter Div. 2
No need to increase team subscriptions this year.
9. Election of Officers All officers are willing to
stand again, but John Edwards intimated that the coming season
might be his last (after ten years). This would almost certainly
mean, by the comments in his Report, that Bob King would stand
down as well. We await willing volunteers - PLEASE!!
10. Application of the Rules Oasis still require earlier
start (7pm) as last season.
11. Changes in Rules No changes submitted
12. Application from new teams or details of teams not entering
this coming season
Likely to be new Ladies' teams from Fakenham and Brooke. Eaton
Lions will be renamed East Anglian Lions and will take over the
Lakenham spot as their A team. This was put to the meeting and
approved.
One Taverham Mens' team is being withdrawn
13. Agreement on Divisions for 2008 To be left to the Committee,
taking account of new and departing teams and Rule 17 as amended
at the last AGM.
14. Starting date for the Season Monday 5 May (Bank Holiday).
John Edwards will make an effort, as far as possible, to ensure
that teams, with a Monday home night, will have an away match
on the Bank Holiday
